Utility Clerk

Iron County Medical Center (ICMC) has an opening for a full-time, Business Office Utility Clerk. Schedule will normally be day shift, Monday through Friday though occasional week-end work may be necessary. Work locations will include main campus and business office, depending on daily assigned duties


  • Acknowledge and effectively demonstrate by actions that the patient always comes first
  • Greet persons entering the building in a friendly, welcoming manner; engage in health screening process
  • Aid persons with physical and other challenges in getting to the appropriate department/location
  • Monitor visitor access and maintain security awareness, always being attentive to detail
  • Deal with queries from the public, patients, vendors, contractors, and other customers appropriately and with courtesy
  • Answer telephone, screen, and direct calls, take and relay messages, provide appropriate responses to callers.
  • Perform a variety of clerical and administrative duties including 1) faxing; 2) filing; copying and copy distribution; 3) type documents, prepare spreadsheets and assemble reports; 4) cross-train on registration job to provide back-up assistance to registration clerks; 5) cross-train on billing to provide back-up assistance to billing specialists; 6) learn basics of financial counselor job in order to answer questions to those needing assistance and to be able to set up appointments with financial counselor

Skills and Abilities:

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent with a good grasp of basic math
  • Appropriate administrative and clerical skills to satisfactorily perform assigned duties
  • Knowledge of computers and relevant software applications w/ability to key at least 50 wpm without error
  • Must demonstrate respect, professionalism, empathy, and courtesy at all times
  • Working knowledge of customer service principles and practices (i.e., “the customer is always right”)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills necessary to succeed in team environment
  • Good organizational skills with demonstrated “attention to detail” characteristic
  • Previous hospital or medical/billing office experience is preferred
  • Must be able to multi-task, exercise good judgment, be dependable, and capable of independently carrying out assigned tasks and day-to-day duties efficiently, effectively, and courteously
