Infection Prevention

Raising Standards for Healthier Hospitals

We believe healthcare excellence means going beyond the acceptable standards for reducing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).

Healthcare-associated infections are infections caused by a wide variety of common and unusual bacteria, fungi and viruses during the course of receiving medical care. Medical advances have brought lifesaving care to patients in need, yet many of those advances come with a risk of these infections.

Wherever patient care is provided, adherence to infection prevention guidelines is needed to ensure that all care is safe care. This includes traditional hospital settings, as well as outpatient surgery centers, long-term care facilities, rehabilitation centers, physician’s offices and community clinics.

Infection Preventionist

At Iron County Medical Center, we are proud to have an Infection Preventionist on site who is certified by The Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc.  Our Infection Preventionist is a specially trained nurse that works with Infectious Disease doctors and medical team members to ensure the safest infection-free care possible.

Our Infection Preventionist is an active member of national and St. Louis chapters of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. These networks, along with our very close working relationship with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), allow us to be educated, informed and prepared to provide the highest level of infection prevention possible for all of our patients.
